By Train

From Ueno: Take the Tokkyu Kusatsugo 130 minutes to Nakanojo Station. From there it's a 30 minute bus ride or a 25 minute taxi to Shima Onsen

From Niigata: Take the Joetsu Shinkansen to Takasaki Station for 80 minutes and then change to the Agatsuma Line (via Shibukawa) for 40 minutes to Nakanojo Station. From there is a 30 minute bus ride or 25 minute taxi ride to Shima Onsen.

By Car:

From Tokyo: Get on the Kanetsu Expressway from the Nerima IC for 70 minutes and get off at the Shibukawa Ikaho IC onto R353 for 30 minutes to Nakanojo and continue on R353 for another 30 minutes to Shima Onsen.

From Utsunomiya: Get on the Tohoku Expressway at the Kanuma IC and drive for 30 minutes then change to the Kita Tohoku Expressway at Iwafune Junction. Continue for 45 minutes and then change to the Kanetsu Expressway at the Takasaki Junction. Continue for 15 minutes then get off at the Shibukawa Ikaho IC and onto R353 for 30 minutes to Nakanojo, and then for another 30 minutes on R353 to Shima Onsen.

From Nagoya: Get on the Chuo Expressway at Nagoya IC and drive for 120 minutes. Change to the Nagano Expressway at Okaya Junction and drive for 60 minutes to Koshoku Junction. Change to the Joshin-Etsu Expressway and drive for 20 minutes to the Ueda Sugadaira IC. Take R144 for 100 minutes to Nakanojo and then change to R353 and drive for 30 minutes to Shima Onsen.

From Niigata: Get onto the Kanetsu Expressway at the Nishi-Niigata IC and drive for 100 minutes to the Tsukinoyo IC. Change to R145 and drive for 30 minutes and then change to R353 at Nakanojo and then drive 30 minutes to Shima Onsen.
